In the piece, Shrink, Malstaf traps people between two sheets of transparent plastic, while the air is being pulled out by a compressor (not for the claustrophobics): an impressive performance in which the human being is reduced to some perishable and fragile good, but more in relation with body art than technology.

Is This Art?

New iphone app “Is This Art?” is the brainchild of Pittsburgh-based contemporary arts center the Mattress Factory, and technology marketing firm Deeplocal.

“Hold your phone up to a work, snap a picture using the app and it will declare whether what you’re looking at is art. Among the one-liners it delivers: “Sister Wendy would not find God in this, therefore THIS IS NOT ART.” Users can then send the image to isthisart.org, where everyone can debate an object’s art-worthiness.”
